Nearly 100 local bridge players filled the Los Altos Youth Center March 16 to earn masters points, socialize and raise funds at the American Association of University Women’s Bridge Benefit Party.
The annual event, sponsored by the AAUW’s Los Altos-Mountain View branch, raised more than $4,000 for scholarships that enable local middle-school girls to attend Tech Trek Science & Math Camp at Stanford University in the summer. The camp features hands-on activities in math, science and related fields. Several of last year’s scholarship winners volunteered to help set up, serve refreshments and clean up after the event.
The fundraiser included American Contract Bridge League-sanctioned duplicate bridge for serious players, party bridge for the less serious and a Tripoli table for the bridge-impaired.
Local residents and merchants donated more than $2,000 in gift certificates for a silent auction that included produce from a local farmers’ market, bridge lessons and a stay at a Lake Tahoe condominium.
