Centipedes, anyone? The Los Altos Library offers an “Insect Discovery Lab” among its March programs.

The Los Altos Library, through the benefit of an anonymous gift, has scheduled special science programs appropriate for children from kindergarten and up 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays in March at the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The programs include:

• March 12: “Insect Discovery Lab” will explore the lives of beetles, millipedes and other insects and arthropods. Children will have an opportunity to hold live insects.

• March 19: “Gems Rock” will include an earth science show and exhibit where the children “mine” for treasure – real gemstones: emeralds, amethyst, quartz and more.

• March 26: “The Amazing Science Whiz Show,” presented by Magic Circus, will examine the laws of physics, earth science, environmental education and visual perception through large, moving optical illusions.
