Encore! event highlights oldest living Olympic gold medalist

The Rotary Club of Los Altos’ Partners for Elder Generations has scheduled its annual “Encore! Investigate Your Passion and Get Involved” event 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23 at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

Encore! is an interactive event for adults 50 and older, featuring more than 25 nonprofit exhibits, lunch and a panel discussion on encore career opportunities.

Sándor Tarics, 99 – the oldest living Olympic gold medalist – will be the lunchtime speaker, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Tarics participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a member of the Hungarian water polo team and played on the national team through 1939.

After an introductory biography, Tarics, a Belvedere resident, will be available for a question-and-answer session about his experiences and longevity.

Encore! participants can explore new possibilities for life enrichment, meet and talk with representatives from nonprofit organizations who need volunteers and consult with others on how to start a new career.

Admission is free, but reservations are required.
