The Sunbeam Foundation’s fourth annual “Cooks for a Cure” is scheduled 4 p.m. June 24 in downtown Los Altos. The event is a fundraiser for research to identify a cure for childhood bone cancer.
Nine Los Altos restaurants will donate food to Sunbeam’s progressive dinner. Kara Haspel Lind of Kara’s Cupcakes, this year’s guest chef, will teach guests how to prepare sweet vanilla cupcakes.
Participating restaurants include Aldo Los Altos, Ristorante Bella Vita, Fiesta Vallarta, Los Altos Grill, Lulu’s on Main Street, Mikado, Opa!, Pompeii Ristorante and Spot Pizza.
“Kara is very giving of her time, especially related to causes for children, so this was right up her alley,” said Brad Wolfe, foundation co-chairman. “The restaurants are so supportive – the whole town has stepped up and been great.”
Guests, divided into two groups, will stroll downtown streets and sample two entrées from participating restaurants.
Highlights include live entertainment and an array of auction items featured both before and after the dinner. Researchers will report on the latest progress made in fighting the disease.
“The Sunbeam Foundation and organizations like ours are instrumental in the efforts to advance research, improve treatment and eventually find a cure for all patients with malignant bone tumors,” said Sunbeam member Sharon Barkoff.
Wolfe said this year’s event would feature the inaugural Sunbeam Scholar grant, awarded to a promising young researcher.
