Los Altos PREPARE has scheduled a series of fall Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trainings to prepare local residents for emergencies.
The sessions are slated 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2, 9 and 16 at Intero Real Estate Services, 496 First St., No. 200, Los Altos. Graduation and field exercises are set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.
CERT is part of a nationwide program for disaster preparedness developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the California Service Corps, of which Los Altos PREPARE is the local Citizen Corps Council.
CERT training is designed to minimize loss of life and property in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. The course aims to be an informative, interactive learning experience for adults of all ages.

• Incident Command System
Attendance at all six sessions is required for certification.
Cost is $95, which includes all sessions, graduation exercises and a CERT backpack with safety equipment and tools. Cost is $25 for those taking the course as a refresher who already have the supply kit. The registration deadline is Sept. 8.
Los Altos PREPARE is a program of the Los Altos Community Foundation and stresses partnership with the Block Action Team.
