For the curious among us: An introduction to nearly everything

The Los Altos main library has scheduled the series “Big History,” which offers an overview of the cosmos from a scientific point of view, including a review of the Big Bang.

The Los Altos Library has scheduled the series “Big History” for residents of all ages who are curious about the history of the cosmos, Earth, life and humanity.

All programs are scheduled 7-9 p.m. in the Program Room of the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Chemistry professor John Hostettler will headline the nine presentations, using DVDs from The Teaching Company. “Big History” is an emerging academic discipline that explores history from the Big Bang to the present.

Scheduled dates and topics:

• Sept. 22: “Intro to Big History”

• Sept. 29: “Cosmic History”

• Oct. 6: “Earth History”

• Oct. 20: “History of Life on Earth”

• Oct. 27: “Pre-History of Humans”

• Nov. 3: “Agriculture Revolution”

• Nov. 10: “Cities, Civilizations, Empires”

• Nov. 17: “The Industrial Revolution”

• Nov. 24: “20th Century and Onward”
