An afternoon of art, fashion and music slated at Gitane Los Altos: Local Arts Roundup

Los Altos artist Audrey Lund’s “Sunset Drive, San Francisco” is among her works on display at Gitane Freedom of Style boutique through the end of August.

Gitane Freedom of Style boutique in downtown Los Altos has scheduled an afternoon of art, fashion and music noon to 4 p.m. July 27 at 334 State St.

The event will feature a collection of paintings by Los Altos artist Audrey Lund, a live art demonstration by Oleg Tumasov, jewelry art courtesy of Alicia Van Fleteren and live music from pianist Oliver Michael Robertson.

Lund, who immigrated to the United States from France in 1999, favors impressionistic images and bright colors reminiscent of the French painter Henri Matisse.

“Let the emotion come out,” said Lund of her artistic philosophy. “My inspiration starts with pictures of subjects that catch my eye, then I make an interpretation of them. Sometimes I stay close to the subject itself, and sometimes I change it all.”

Lund said colors are a big part of her work.

“I want to feel big emotions and reflect them in my paintings,” she said. “Strong colors, lights and charismatic subjects are always attractive to me.”

Lund said she organized the event to draw attention to a variety of artistic expressions while simultaneously providing exposure to both the artists and Gitane. Lund’s work is on display at the boutique through Aug. 31.

The artist staged her first show two months ago at Gitane in Menlo Park. Owner Malika Parker suggested that Lund do another show at her Los Altos boutique.

“For this upcoming show, I wanted to make it more of a bigger art event, where art is alive and happening,” Lund said. “That’s how I came up with the idea of live art, live music and fashion and jewelry.”

‘POPS in the Orchard’ on exhibit at library

An exhibition of paintings of the Los Altos Civic Center Orchard, “POPs in the Orchard,” is on display at the Los Altos main library through the end of July.

Most of the plein-air paintings in the show originated during a “paint out” in March, blossom time in the orchard, which attracted more than two dozen artists from the Peninsula Outdoor Painters. The exhibition features a wide range of views of the landscape surrounding the civic center.

The Los Altos main library is located at 13. S. San Antonio Road.
