Concert benefits LightHouse for Blind

Longtime Los Altos residents Steve Gill and his daughter, Anne, have scheduled “‘The Song Is You’: Kern (Jerome) and Cahn (Sammy) Go to Hollywood,” the 13th annual Benefit Concert for LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Menlo School’s Spieker Ballroom, 50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton.

Los Altos resident Mollie Thompson and former Los Altos resident Linda Jordan will join Anne and Steve at this year’s tribute to composers Kern and Cahn. The concert will also feature seven alumni of Menlo School and three Menlo faculty members.

A $15 donation is requested. Seating is first come, first served.

MROSD schedules January hikes

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District has scheduled two hikes Thursday:

• “Tafoni Trek,” 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at El Corte de Madera Creek.

• “Winter in the Watershed,” 10 a.m. to noon at Picchetti Ranch.

Local artists display work at museum

The Los Altos History Museum’s contemporary art exhibition, “Los Altos – Moving Art Forward,” runs through March 23.

The project celebrates local artists with a juried exhibition in painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media.

The display complements the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s off-site exhibition, “Project Los Altos: SFMOMA in Silicon Valley,” scheduled to run through March at various venues across the city.

The Los Altos History Museum is located at 51 S. San Antonio Road. Admission is free.

Homestay program needs host families

The International Student Placements program at Foothill and De Anza colleges needs host families for international students.

The program has placed students with local families for more than 20 years.

Host families are asked to provide a private or double bedroom and share meals and kitchen privileges. The arrangements start in August and end in June.

Hosts are paid between $825 and $1,000 per month.

‘One Warm Scarf’ campaign continues

Los Altos resident Sandy Goldstein continues her annual “One Warm Scarf” campaign to help the area’s homeless residents. She collects used hats, gloves and scarves to ease the winter chill.
