Kevin Tang and Max Louis Simpson

Troop 37 honors new Eagle Scouts

Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 37 recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to Max Louis Simpson and Kevin Tang, both seniors at Mountain View High School.

Simpson, who also earned the Bronze and Gold Eagle Palms, joined Troop 37 in 2008 and has served in various leadership positions. For his Eagle project, he refurbished the Festival of Lights Parade’s Jack-in-the-Box float.

Simpson said his most memorable scouting activities included snow camping, canoeing and portaging 65 miles at Northern Tier on the Canadian/U.S. border and being the sole Troop 37 scout to earn the 100th Anniversary Historic Signaling merit badge.

He is the son of Karen and Jeff Simpson of Mountain View.

Tang earned the Scout of the Year Award in 2011, joined the Order of the Arrow and served as the troop’s Senior Patrol Leader in 2012. He began his scouting career as a Webelo in Pack 76 and received his Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest award, in 2008. That same year, he joined Troop 37.

For his Eagle Project, Tang redesigned and rebuilt a Lost and Found unit for Covington School.

Tang said his most memorable activities were backpacking 90 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, waking up at the crack of dawn to swim the Mile Swim at Camp Oljato and leading Troop 37 in numerous events during his six-month term as Senior Patrol Leader.

He is the son of Weini Zhang and Kia Tang of Los Altos.
