The Rotary Club of Los Altos and the Foothill College Veterans Resource Center received certificates of appreciation Aug. 8 in recognition of their commitment to the educational advancement of veterans and military personnel.

Brig. Gen. Mitchell R. Chitwood, deputy commander of the 63rd Regional Support Command at Moffett Field, presented the awards during a recent visit to Foothill College. In addition to meeting with student-veterans and members of the Rotary Club, Chitwood toured the campus and visited a computer lab for a demonstration of how Livescribe smartpens and other computer-assistive technology help veterans on campus study and meet their educational goals.

The Rotary Club of Los Altos donated nearly $15,000 for the purchase of smartpens for veterans on campus. The organization also raises money for the Friends of American Veterans Scholarship to support student veterans at Foothill College.
