Upgrade the Los Altos Senior Center
We ask the mayor and city council to initiate upgrades to the Los Altos Senior Center. The aging facilities are in disrepair and in need of improvements to serve our community’s senior citizens.
A recent Los Altos City Council-commissioned survey ranked improvements to the Senior Center as respondents’ highest priority.
Past studies have suggested that a new Senior Center could be part of the Civic Center Master Plan. However, it is doubtful that approval of the plan will occur in the near future.
We believe a less ambitious approach is warranted.
Select improvements targeting the most deficient areas – restrooms, utilities, furniture, interior painting and flooring – could be accomplished immediately at modest expense.
We have a significant percentage of seniors in our community; they deserve a functional center.

Vibrancy not helping downtown doctor
My doctor has been told to leave his downtown office to make way for one of the new office/condo/underground parking projects.
He wanted to find a new office downtown, but everywhere he looked, the zoning did not allow for a doctor’s office.
This is a very busy doctor who has been generous enough to work with difficult-to-treat patients. He has to go elsewhere.
All this “vibrancy” everyone talks about is a pile of garbage if downtown Los Altos cannot accommodate a much-appreciated and much-needed doctor. I hope the city council reads this.
