The Los Altos Village Association recently launched a 501(c)3 donation account to keep events like summer movie nights going.
Residents who wish to donate charitably to a local endeavor now have an additional option to consider – the Los Altos Village Association.
According to Executive Director Nancy Dunaway, the LAVA Board of Directors recently established a 501(c)3 donation account with the Los Altos Community Foundation to keep some of the organization’s community events and programs afloat.
Dunaway said the board chose to establish the account – named the Los Altos Village Fund – after several local residents “expressed interest” in donating to help fund some of the organization’s renowned events, including its annual downtown carriage rides during the holidays and its summer movie night program.
“What we’re finding is that we are in a position where we may have to cut some programs,” Dunaway said. “We’ve had increased costs, which are impacting the things we can do.”
As an example of the organization’s struggle to maintain its programs, Dunaway pointed to the weekly outdoor movie night program during the summer months. In years past, she noted, the organization hosted free family-friendly movies at Main and Third streets on Friday nights in June, July and August. Because of increased costs and lack of local sponsorship, she added, this year’s program will run solely in August for three weeks.
The organization established the fund to offset programming costs, enabling interested residents to make tax-deductible contributions – a “win-win” for everyone involved, Dunaway said. She added that LAVA board members are contributing personally to the fund to kick off the organization’s effort.
“We just felt that in order to show the community that the board stands behind the organization, the fitting thing to do would be to donate personally,” she noted.
