Long time Los Altos Hills resident William E. Evans passed away January 17, 2011. One of the first Los Altos residents, Bill and his family had lived in their house on the hill for over 50 years. He came to Stanford after the war and studied with Louis B. Terman at the School of Engineering and went on to become a Senior Research Engineer with SRI International where he pioneered research in a myriad of subjects from early color television, to the bar code scanner to satellite imaging techniques. He won many awards for his work including the prestigious IEEE Vladimir Zworkin Award, and a Motion Picture Academy technical “Oscar”. He retired to Loomis, CA with his wife of 60 years, Fleda Krone Evans who preceded him in death in April 2010. He is survived by his son, Roger Evans and his family of Loomis, CA, and his daughter, Lee Evan Evans Belfiglio and her family, of Bellevue, WA. He will be greatly missed. The family asks that remembrances be made to the Burn Unit at the UC Davis Medical Center, Vitas Hospice Care of Sacramento, CA or PEO International.
