Perhaps the most difficult aspect of dressing well is knowing how to dress down. People tend to sacrifice comfort to be in style or give up style to be comfortable.
Dennis Rich, a new men's sportswear clothing store, which opened last month on Main Street in Los Altos is ready to solve this dilemma with stylish sportswear and casual clothing.
Enter Dennis Rich, Fine Men's Apparel store, and you will find garments from designers like Joseph Abboud, Jhane Barnes, Donna Karan, Hugo Boss and St. Croix knits.
The store will feature slacks, sport shirts, T-shirts and sweaters.
After many years as a CEO in the corporate arena, Rich started a fine men's apparel store located at 4 Embarcadero Center, next to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco.
"People come into the store with a big welcome smile because there hasn't been a clothing store in the city for more than 10 years," Rich said. "What I bring to the men's clothing scene is a fresh new look in sportswear apparel."
Walk into many men's clothing stores and you'll find columns of sport coats, formal wear and circular racks of trousers in different sizes and colors, and tables and tables of silk ties.
Walk into Dennis Rich's and 95 percent of the inventory is sportswear.
Like owners of most clothing establishments, Dennis and his wife Patty go to clothing shows to purchase their stock several times a year.
They visit Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Montreal and Italy to buy the latest in stylish sportswear.
"Patty has an eye for color and style that is transposed into our inventory," Dennis said. "She helps men customers with their different requests and advises them on the latest in sportswear."
On an exclusive basis, Dennis Rich is one of the nation's few stores that specialize in international designer men's sportswear from France, Germany, Canada, London and Italy.
The store inventory is not complete and in the near future, cardigans, dress shirts and accessories will be added as the seasons change.
"We will be bringing in a designer line of sportswear with 'Los Altos' and 'Los Altos Hills' in an embroidered logo on the left chest of polo shirts, T-shirts and sweat shirts." Dennis said. "We will stock these signature items for both men and women."
Dennis and Patty live in Atherton and have had their eye on a men's clothing store in Los Altos for a long time.
"The business opportunity here in Los Altos is terrific," he said. "The friendliness of the people is extraordinary and the clientele is different than in San Francisco," said Dennis.
The store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays.
