After several months of renovations, the Los Altos Home Consignment Center officially opened with a ribbon-cutting April 9. Occupying the totally remodeled location of the prior Kentucky Fried Chicken building on Main Street, the new business will sell high quality furniture, art, accessories, china, silver, crystal, and fine jewelry on consignment.
This is the third location for the Danville-based Home Consignment Center that locates it's stores near affluent communities. The store is managed by Ginger Raaka, a Los Altos resident.
During the past four weeks, the store has received merchandise and sold it as fast it arrived, Raaka said. She added that they went ahead and opened the doors early, "since so many people had their noses pressed against the glass."
The former KFC location was purchased by the City of Los Altos as part of the effort to improve the appearance and quality to the entrance of Main Street. The building has a lengthy local history, having served many years as the home of Gordon's Market, prior to the 1966 acquisition by KFC.
