Green California lauds State Sen. Joe Simitian
Green California recognized state Sen. Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) as an Environmental Champion at its Advocacy Day reception May 10 in Sacramento.
The organization noted Simitian’s “near-perfect” record on its annual environmental scorecard and commended his authorship of the recently adopted renewable energy law, SB 2X, which requires California to secure 33 percent of its energy from renewable resources by 2020.
“I’m gratified to be recognized in this way,” Simitian said. “Even in a difficult year, we have continued to move meaningful environmental policy forward, helping our environment and our economy.”
Simitian is serving his sixth year as Senate Environmental Quality Committee chairman. He focuses his efforts on coastal protection, green chemistry and water quality and supply.
Green California is a network of more than 70 environmental, health and justice organizations with more than 1 million members who support the state’s most pressing environmental issues.
State Sens. Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro), Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) and Fran Pavley (D-Santa Monica) were also honored at the event.
