Foothill opens 'South Pacific' this week in Los Altos Hills

Foothill Music Theatre’s production of “South Pacific” is scheduled to run Thursday through Aug. 10 in Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

Winner of 10 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, the musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II is based on James A. Michener’s 1927 Pulitzer Prize-winning book “Tales of the South Pacific.” “South Pacific,” which opened on Broadway in 1949, is the only musical to win Tony Awards in all four acting categories.

Hidden Villa launches film series with 'Soul of Justice' Sunday

Hidden Villa is slated to host a summertime film series featuring movies that spotlight local and international change-makers.

The monthly Duveneck Forum Film Series is scheduled to begin with a screening of “Soul of Justice: Thelton Henderson’s American Journey” 5 p.m. Sunday at Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.

Children's Theatre in the Park concludes Friday

The city of Mountain View and Peninsula Youth Theatre cap their Children’s Theatre in the Park series with a free performance of “The Dancing Spider” 6:30 p.m. Friday at the outdoor ParkStage, adjacent to Pioneer Park, 1146 Church St.

The production runs approximately 45 minutes. Families are encouraged to bring picnic dinners and blankets.

LA Youth Theatre, LA Stage Company join forces for 'Oz'

Los Altos Youth Theatre and Los Altos Stage Company are partnering to present “The Wizard of Oz,” scheduled Friday through Aug. 3 at Bus Barn Theater.

The production is based on the 1900 book by L. Frank Baum and adapted by John Kane from the classic film with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.

LA cellist performs Saturday

Los Altos resident and cellist Sarah Hong is scheduled to perform a benefit recital 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave., Palo Alto.

Hong will perform with her duo partner, Japanese pianist Makiko Ooka. Additionally, Seyoung Lee will play the violin, with Caroline Lee on the viola.

The Los Altos Stage Company is slated to present Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical “Company” through June 28 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, “Company” is the story of Bobby, a 30-something bachelor, and his inability to commit to a long-term relationship – even with himself. Witnessing the trials and tribulations of his friends – five married, once-married or soon-to-be-married couples – Bobby struggles to understand the reason for couplehood. Eventually, he comes to believe that while relationships are far from perfect, they are a necessary part of life.
