Peninsula Youth Theatre presents “Shrek The Musical” Saturday through Aug. 3 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

The musical tells the story of Shrek, an ogre on a quest for a little solitude.

When a bunch of zany fairy-tale critters invade his peace and quiet, Shrek must rescue a princess while contending with a motor-mouthed donkey, a fire-breathing dragon and a host of other memorable characters.

Based on the hit movie, “Shrek The Musical” was nominated for eight Tony awards. The high-energy score – with music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire – features audience favorites such as “Big, Bright Beautiful World,” “Freak Flag” and “I’m a Believer.”

Meg Fischer directs the PYT production, which includes choreography by Brian Miller.

Performances are scheduled 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays (matinee only Aug. 3) and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Tickets are $16-$20.

For tickets and more information, call 903-6000 or visit pytnet.org.
