Peninsula Youth Theatre presents the musical “Oliver!,” slated Thursday through May 18 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.
Orphaned Oliver Twist navigates the perils of Victorian London in this musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel. Lionel Bart created the book, music and lyrics.
“Oliver!” features familiar songs such as “Food, Glorious Food” and “Pick a Pocket or Two.”
The PYT cast – directed by Roberta Inscho-Cox and choreographed by Jennifer Vaillancourt – includes local residents.
“Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’ is set at the very dawn of the Victorian era, a time when life was especially difficult for the have-nots” said Karen Simpson, PYT’s executive director. “The unforgettable characters brought to the stage in ‘Oliver!’ truly immerse our performers in the struggles of the working class of the day.”
