Mel Brooks' 'Young Frankenstein' opens at PA's Lucie Stern Theatre

Palo Alto Players’ production of “Young Frankenstein” – with book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks – opened last week and is slated to run through May 11 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

Brooks reimagined his 1974 film as a Broadway musical filled with humor. Drawing loosely from the Mary Shelley classic, Dr. Frankenstein inherits a Transylvanian castle prime for monster making. The characters include Frau Blücher, hunchback Igor and lab assistant Inga.

Patrick Klein directs the cast of Steven Ennis (as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein), Lindsay Stark (Elizabeth Benning), Jessica Whittemore (Inga), George Mauro (The Hermit/Inspector Hans Kemp), Michael D. Reed (The Monster), Joey McDaniel (Igor), Linda Piccone (Frau Blücher) and Shawn Bender (Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein).

Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays.
