TheatreWorks is slated to present “The Hound of the Baskervilles” today through April 27 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. The play previews today through Friday and opens Saturday.
Based on the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “Hound” spoofs Sherlock Holmes. The comedy – adapted by Steven Canny and John Nicholson – involves an ancient family curse, a spectral hound, a deranged killer and a pair of well-known sleuths
Originally staged in 2007 by British comedy stage troupe Peepolykus, the three-man show was recorded as part of the BBC Radio 4’s “More Than Words Festival” in 2012.
Robert Kelley, TheatreWorks founding artistic director, directs the production. TheatreWorks veterans Ron Campbell, Michael Gene Sullivan and Darren Bridgett take on dozens of roles, primarily playing Holmes, Watson and Baskerville, respectively.
“Hound” includes scenic design by Andrea Bechert, costume design by B Modern, lighting design by Steven B. Mannshardt and sound design by Cliff Caruthers.
Previews are scheduled 8 p.m. today through Friday and the official opening at the same time Saturday. Future shows are slated 2 and/or 7 p.m. Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 2 and/or 8 p.m. Saturdays,
Tickets are $19-$73, with discounts for educators, seniors and patrons 30 and under. A $6 convenience fee will be assessed for online and telephone orders.
