JCC presents "Peter and the Wolf"

The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center is slated to present the family-friendly musical “Peter and the Wolf” – featuring live music, multilingual narration and multimedia visuals – Sunday at the center’s Schultz Cultural Arts Hall, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto.

In an effort to recognize the Bay Area’s many cultures, a different narrator and language will be featured at each of the four performances. The intent is to help children connect with their culture and expose them to the language of their parents and grandparents – whether it’s Russian, Hebrew, Mandarin or English.

“Many of our members come from multicultural and, of course, multilingual backgrounds,” said Ronit Widmann-Levy, director of arts and culture at the center. “We are striving to create an inclusive program that families can enjoy together, while bringing new audiences to our wonderful array of performing-arts programs.”

The show schedule: Russian, 1-1:45 p.m.; Mandarin, 2-2:45 p.m.; Hebrew, 3:15-4 p.m.; and English, 4:15-5 p.m.

Ming Luke, San Francisco Ballet’s assistant conductor, will lead the chamber orchestra.

An interactive carnival of family activities is scheduled before and after the concerts. It will include pony rides, a petting zoo, a bounce house, mural painting, an assortment of musical instruments to try out, face painting and clay figurine creation. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite “Peter and the Wolf” character.

Show tickets are $15-$20.
