Cellist Shon to solo with CYS Sunday

The award-winning California Youth Symphony (CYS), under the direction of Maestro Leo Eylar, is scheduled to perform 2:30 p.m. Sunday at De Anza College’s Flint Center.

CYS, based in Palo Alto, is in its 62nd season.

Sunday’s concert will feature 16-year-old cellist Ila Shon, winner of the 2013 CYS Young Artist Competition, performing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto.

Shon has won first prizes at several competitions since she made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall at 13.

Sunday’s program includes two American works, Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and Bernstein’s “Three Dances from On the Town,” as well as Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade.”

De Anza College is located at 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.

Tickets are $10-$15.
