LAYT launches ‘Arabian Nights’

Pierre Laurent/Special to the Town Crier
The cast of Los Altos Youth Theatre’s production of “Arabian Nights” includes, from left, Riley Breier (as Shahrayar), Layla Dessouki (Dinarzad) and Rachel Bratt (Shahrazad).

Los Altos Youth Theatre is scheduled to present “Arabian Nights” Friday through Nov. 3 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

The script uses an ensemble method of storytelling. Actors aged 8-20 from Los Altos and surrounding communities perform the major roles and also play the stairs, the snakes, the magic fountain and the cave of the 40 thieves.

Dominic Cooke adapted the play for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Stories include Shahrazad, Ali Baba, Sindibad the Sailor and The Little Beggar.

Rebecca J. Ennals chose to direct the play because it introduces stories from another culture.

Performances are slated 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Oct. 25, 26 and Nov. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3.
