The 65-piece California Pops Orchestra kicks off its 25th Silver Jubilee Season 3 p.m. Sunday at Smithwick Theatre on the Foothill College campus.
The opening performance of the six-show season, “Variety Show!,” will feature music from “How the West Was Won,” “Camelot,” “The High and the Mighty” and “Dick Tracy,” among others.
The orchestra will perform tributes to Big Band leader Harry James, featuring Bob Runnells on trumpet, and animated icon Bugs Bunny.
Pianist Chin Beckmann will join the orchestra for the original “Variations on ‘I Got Rhythm’” as performed by George Gershwin.”
Known by fans as the Boston Pops of the West Coast, the California Pops Orchestra is the nation’s only all-request symphony orchestra, playing hits from 80 years of Big Band, Hollywood, Broadway, jazz and comedy music.
Tickets for the series are $83-$235. Tickets for individual shows are $42 premium center, $37 regular and Americans with Disabilities Act access, $15 youth. All seating is reserved.
Foothill College is located at 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Free parking is available in lots 5 and 6.
To avoid long ticket lines on show day, advance tickets are advised.
