Los Altos Youth Theatre is slated to present “Gretel & Hansel” Friday through July 28 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

Written in the style of a British pantomime by Kate Hawley for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, this version of “Gretel & Hansel” is riddled with puns and includes a lot of audience participation.

The music, composed by Craig Bohmler, features a number of styles, from ragtime to hip-hop.

Two rotating casts will perform the play, including Paige Decena as Gretel, Timmy Smith and Alex Sanchez as Hansel, Shaina Hammer and Dor Gvirtsman as the witch, Emily Goto as the stepmother, Sarah Hammer as Tom Cat and Renee Remsberg as Kitten Caboodle.

The production team includes ej Taylor (director), Gay Richard (choreography), Michelle Markwart-Deveaux (vocal direction) and Madeleine Graham (music direction).

“This show was an enormous hit with audience and cast whenwe did it nine years ago, and we look forward to sharing it with a new generation,” said Trish Files, LAYT’s artistic director.

Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, July 19, 20, 26 and 27, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 27 and 28. Tickets are $15-$17.
