This is the final week to catch Los Altos Stage Company’s production of “Avenue Q.” The comedy is scheduled to close Saturday at Bus Barn Theater.

With a cast of puppets and humans, “Avenue Q” has been described as “‘Sesame Street’ for adult audiences.”

It is an irreverent musical comedy about Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. The only apartment he can afford is way out on Avenue Q, where everyone’s looking for the same things: a decent job, a stable relationship and a life purpose. Eventually, Princeton learns to embrace the ups and downs of city life and realizes that the real world isn’t so bad after all.

The play features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and book by Jeff Whitty. Lopez and Marx based it on an original concept.

“Avenue Q” won the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book in 2003.

Michael Ryken directs the Los Altos Stage Company production, which features music direction by Mark Hanson.

The cast includes Anthony Chan (as Princeton), Cassie Blake (Lucy), Mylissa Malley (Kate Monster), Warren Wernick (Nicky), David Mister (Trekkie Monster), Mark Sanders (Bad Idea Bear Boy), Adam Cotugno (Brian), Kathryn Han (Christmas Eve), Nicole Julien (Gary Coleman), Tomas Theriot (Rod) and Jen Wheatonfox (Bad Idea Bear Girl and Mrs. T).

Due to adult situations, “Avenue Q” may be inappropriate for children under 13 or people who are easily offended.

Shows are slated 7:30 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Bus Barn, 97 Hillview Ave. Tickets are $18-$36.
