Alex Goley stars as Huckleberry Finn in “Big River” at TheatreWorks through Sunday at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto.
TheatreWorks is scheduled to present the Tony Award-winning musical “Big River” through Sunday at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.
Mark Twain’s story “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” comes alive in this musical adaptation. Runaways Huck and Jim, an escaped slave, sweep down the mighty Mississippi River, discovering a friendship that defies convention and defines the American dream.
The production includes an award-winning score by Country Music Hall of Fame’s Roger Miller and a script that won William Hauptman a Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical.
Robert Kelley directs a cast featuring Alex Goley (as Huckleberry Finn), James Monroe Iglehart (Jim), Scott Reardon (Tom Sawyer), Lucinda Hitchcock Cone (Widow Douglas) and Alison Ewing (Miss Watson).
“River” also features Matt Henerson (Pap Finn), seen on film in Disney’s “Mars Needs Moms” and “A Christmas Carol,” on TV in “The Bernie Mac Show” and onstage at American Conservatory Theater, among others.
Martin Rojas Dietrich, Jackson Davis, Jesse Caldwell, Matt Provencal, Cyril Jamal Cooper, Katie Jane Martin, Brenna Wahl, Dawn L. Troupe and Tracy Camp round out the cast.
The production includes musical direction by William Liberatore, scenic design by Joe Ragey, costume design by B Modern, lighting design by Pamila Z. Gray and sound design by Jeff Mockus.
Performances are scheduled 7:30 p.m. today, 2 and 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday.
“River” contains mature language.
