Chloe Howard, left, plays the princess, Briar Rose, and Annika Nori is evil witch Modron in Los Altos Youth Theatre’s “Sleeping Beauty.” The production closes Saturday at Bus Barn Theater.

Los Altos Youth Theatre’s production of “Sleeping Beauty” is scheduled to run through Saturday at the Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

Written by Charles Way, it’s a modern twist on the classic tale many remember – right through to the happily ever after. In between is a magical adventure, complete with troublesome fairies, a Spider King and a dashing sword fight.

The sassy title character is a smart and independent princess, Briar Rose. The girl’s best friend is Gryff, a half-dragon, half-man with big dreams. Then there’s Branwen, the friendly witch who tries to out-spell the evil witch Modron. And, of course, there’s a prince, hero-to-be Owain, who starts out as a bumbling klutz.

Directed by Jillian Toby-Cummings, the show is suitable for ages 4 and over. Audience members are encouraged to wear a princess dress, dragon suit or other royal wear.

Performances are scheduled 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children, students and seniors.

For advance tickets and more information, call 941-0551.
