Residents moving into new apartments in The Village at San Antonio Center this week have a prospect of entertainment in their own backyard. Developer Merlone Geier Partners submitted plans last week to build an eight-screen movie theater and 165-room boutique hotel in the northeast corner of the center.
The plan calls for 500,000 square feet of office space, street-level restaurants and shopping and a multistory parking garage.
The hotel plans include meeting and convention space, an outdoor pool and deck areas that could accommodate several hundred people.
Neither the hotel nor the cinema have been contracted to operators, but Mike Grehl, vice president of Merlone Geier, said they were “pretty far along” in discussions with a theater operator. He said the cinema would likely include a bar or restaurant as part of an enhanced movie-going experience.
Grehl projects that the redevelopment at San Antonio Center, taken as a whole, may begin to generate $4 million a year in sales- and hotel-tax revenue for Mountain View.
The project’s first phase, which includes a new Safeway market, 330 apartments, retail and restaurants, is nearing completion this month.
Two new restaurants, Lyfe Kitchen and Paul Martin’s American Bistro, joined Counter Custom Burgers and Starbucks on the list of future tenants. Jared’s Jewelers and Sleep Number also announced they will open in the center.
