Guitarist Samantha Wells performs at Nature Gallery during a recent First Friday event in downtown Los Altos.

First Friday festivities in downtown Los Altos are scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday. Stores and galleries remain open for browsing and shopping, many offering discounts and free refreshments.

Sidewalk musicians will perform, including Quartet 13, the Parhelion Ensemble, the Quarter Tones, a quartet from the Los Altos Chamber Orchestra and Cup Roman. Many of the performers attend Los Altos or Mountain View high schools.

More than 20 downtown restaurants will extend their hours and serve a wide selection of cuisines.

All activities are indoor or covered, so the event will take place rain or shine.

The Los Altos Community Foundation and the Los Altos Town Crier co-sponsor First Fridays.

Los Altos Forward, a volunteer group that promotes vibrancy downtown, organizes the First Friday events, designed to provide a fun, social and community-building evening for local residents.
