The cast of Peninsula Youth Theatre’s “Fiddler on the Roof” includes, from left, Gabrielle Makower (of Los Altos Hills), Talia Gloster (Mountain View), Michael Riskin (Sunnyvale) and Rachel Fosnaugh (Redwood City). The musical opens Saturday. Peninsula Youth Theatre is scheduled to present “Fiddler on the Roof” Saturday through March 10 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. “Fiddler” tells the tale of a Russian patriarch who struggles to make sure his children maintain their culture and religion. The musical features songs such as “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset.”
Winner of nine Tony Awards – including Best Musical – “Fiddler” opened on Broadway in 1964 and was made into a movie in 1971. Bill Starr directs the PYT production, supported by David Herberg (musical director) and Valerie Valenzuela (choreographer).The cast includes local residents. Shows are slated 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. March 7, 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 8, 2 and 7:30 p.m. March 9 and 1 p.m. March 10. Tickets are $7-$20.
