According to Los Altos Police Chief Tuck Younis, a PG&E crew capped the gas line at approximately 2 p.m. At one point, white smoke could be seen rising from the construction area along San Antonio Road, near the entrance to parking plaza 3. The gas leak caused responders at the scene to divert traffic away from the northbound side of San Antonio Road, between Main Street and Foothill Expressway. Younis said the leak occurred after construction workers pulled a tree root from the ground, causing the line to dislodge. Responders on scene were going door-to-door along Main Street telling patrons and business owners to stay inside prior to capping the leak.
