Jennifer Ratay, program officer in The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation’s Effective Philanthropy Group, will join the Los Altos-based Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2) as executive director in March.

Ratay has served at the Hewlett Foundation since 2007. She directed its multimillion-dollar Organizational Effectiveness grants program, which helps grantees strengthen their leadership, organizational infrastructure and impact. She coached grantmakers and grantees on leadership development, board governance, strategic planning, evaluation, and financial health and sustainability.

SV2 donors pool their skills, energy, ideas and money toward making a bigger, more meaningful difference than an individual could make alone. SV2’s 180 partners jointly decide which nonprofits will receive three-year grants in the areas of Education, Health, Environment and International Development. SV2 partners become more strategic philanthropists as they select and advise grantees, attend SV2 educational events and learn from one another.

“Jennifer’s exceptional experience in philanthropy, coupled with her vibrant enthusiasm and deep passion for creating social impact, perfectly qualify her to take the helm of SV2,” said Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, founder and chairwoman emeritus of SV2.

According to SV2 Board Chairwoman Nancy Heinen, the foundation aims to deepen the social impact of its partners and grantees.

“Jennifer shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met,” Heinen said. “We are truly fortunate to be adding her to our team.”

“SV2 is an extraordinary community of accomplished, caring partners modeling excellence in their philanthropy and supporting many of the region’s most innovative and effective nonprofit organizations,” Ratay said. “It’s a tremendous privilege to join this powerful, collective force for good.”
