Lancer pitcher Bell bound for northwest St. Francis High senior Matthew Bell has committed to play baseball for the University of Puget Sound in Washington. The pitcher is entering his second season on varsity. Mtn. View High hosts sports camps in Feb. Spartans Sports Camp has scheduled basketball and lacrosse camps during winter break, Feb. 18-22, at Mountain View High. The basketball camp is open to boys and girls in grades 4-8 and the lacrosse camp is for boys in grades 6-8. Run by Mountain View coaches, each camp is set to run 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at a cost of $195. The basketball camp will focus on games and drills – such as shooting, ball-handling, defense and agility – and there will be an opportunity to use the school’s new shooting machine. The lacrosse camp will cover passing, cradling and increasing general lacrosse IQ; participants must bring their own helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, arm pads and stick. Recruiting expert set to speak at MVHS Recruiting expert Jack Renkens is scheduled to speak 7-8 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Mountain View High, 3535 Truman Ave. Renkens is in his 16th year touring the country explaining the realities of college recruiting to student-athletes and their parents.
