After putting nearby Cupertino Middle and Homestead High schools on alert, city of Sunnyvale officials reported that the search for a gunman is winding down after discovering that the 9-1-1 call may have been a false report. Cupertino Middle School, which includes students from Los Altos, had been locked down on a "code-red" alert since 10:30 a.m. Friday (Jan. 25), according to Jeremey Nishihara, communications director for the Cupertino Union School District. Sunnyvale Police arrived on scene and searched for a suspect to no avail.
According to the city of Sunnyvale's Facebook page, a public safety representative was stationed at the southeast corner of Fremont and Mary avenues to give parents updated information.
