As part of the Silicon Valley Reads 2013 theme “Invisible Wounds of War,” the Los Altos Library has scheduled a “Knit/Crochet-In” 3-5 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Program Room of the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Participants will make items for active-duty soldiers, wounded veterans and Afghan families.

Organizers plan to donate the items to the nonprofit Warmth for Warriors (warmthforwarriors.com), Soldiers’ Angels (soldiersangels.org) and Afghans for Afghans (www.afghansforafghans.org).

Participants are encouraged to check the groups’ websites for guidelines and select projects. Bring your own pattern, needles and yarn.

Friends of the Library of Los Altos and Community will provide refreshments.

For more information, call 948-7683.

If you're knitting for the Afghans4Afghans group please refer to the most recent campaign guidelines at the website: www.afghansforafghans.org. We have an opportunity to send items for THIS winter--only hats, mittens & gloves for teenagers 14-21 yrs. old (adult size). No afghans please, the smaller items are easier to ship & more helpful combating the freezing cold. Thank you for your support!
