The Grove: Memory Care at The Terraces at Los Altos has scheduled an informational “friend-raiser” 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at 373 Pine Lane.

Speakers will include Kay Kallander, senior vice president of strategic planning for American Baptist Homes of the West, and local resident Bonnie Bollwinkel, professional education specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California and Northern Nevada. Kallander and Bollwinkel will discuss how The Grove pioneered a unique philosophy for caring for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and the increasing incidence of dementia in the U.S.

The Grove, slated to open in mid-2013, will be the first state-of-the-art memory-care residence in the area. The facility will allow those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia to live their remaining years in a secure, homelike setting.

“It is vital that we have a memory-care residence within our Los Altos community,” said Frank Verlot, chairman of the facility’s board of advisers. “For resident as well as nonresident seniors, The Grove will mean those who need memory-care support will no longer have to be transferred away from their community. The Grove is a sign of hope for those families desperate to keep their loved ones safe and well-cared for near home.”
