Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election began this week in California, where in-person absentee voting and voting by mail begins 29 days from a scheduled election.

In 2008, nearly 45 percent of all voters statewide submitted their ballots by early or in-person voting.

If you are a registered voter in Santa Clara County, you can vote early in person 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays at the Registrar of Voters Office, 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2, San Jose.

Vote-by-mail ballots can be requested up to seven days before the election by completing a request form and returining it to the county registrar of voters. For more information, click here.
