Los Altos police officers are investigating a commercial burglary that occurred 4 a.m. Sunday on the 300 block of Main Street in downtown Los Altos.

Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into Maria’s antiques store through a rear door, which triggered the alarm, according to Capt. Andy Galea, Los Altos public information officer. The vandals smashed a glass display case and stole “jewelry that could possibly run well into several thousand dollars,” he said.

Owner Rita Armstrong said she’s still working on the inventory and a list of stolen items.

“Jewelry and watches were stolen,” Armstrong said. “The detectives are extremely competent and working very hard on the case.”

Officers are checking physical evidence such as fingerprints as they continue their investigation.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the burglary to call 947-2770.
