The Town Crier and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation partnered to host a celebration Jan. 30 honoring the foundation’s selection as the paper’s 2013 Los Altan of the Year and recognizing the foundation’s 50th anniversary. As is customary, all 19 past Los Altans of the Year were invited to the event, held at the foundation’s headquarters, and all but three attended the party. Co-publisher Liz Nyberg celebrated the foundation’s golden anniversary by noting that it set the “gold standard for philanthropy.” Referring to the foundation’s “24 karat” status, co-publisher Paul Nyberg held up 24 gold carrots, claiming the biggest laugh of the evening.
