RUTH LYDIA ZANGER

OBIT RuthZanger

July 4, 1916 – Jan. 4, 2014

Ruth Lydia (Hardt) Zanger, long-time resident of Los Altos and Cupertino, died peacefully on Jan. 4 at her residence at The Forum in Cupertino. Ruth was born on in Bellwood, Illinois (near Chicago). She attended school and began her work career there. It was also in this area that she met her future husband, George Charles Zanger.

In November 1946, they were married. By March 1947, Ruth and Charlie moved to California, where he started a new job. They lived in Menlo Park for four years, before moving to Los Altos in 1951. Their first child, Laura, was born in 1947, and their son, Carl, was born in 1949. Ruth’s family has happily grown to 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ruth returned to the workforce several years later at the Foothill College Bookstore. She worked there for over 25 years until she retired in 1987. In 1995, she and Charlie moved to Cupertino, where she resided until her death.

Ruth was extremely active in numerous organizations, including the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Women’s Club, and Union Church of Cupertino.
