Bringing the forest to First Street

Forest on First is slated to open later this month. The cafe will offer a menu using locally sourced ingredients, including fresh juices pressed daily prepared by executive chef Tyler Morrish.

Los Altos-based H&H Co. is scheduled to unveil its latest addition to the downtown triangle later this month.

In an email to the Town Crier last week, Dyana Lovold, H&H marketing director, said the company tentatively plans to open the doors to Forest on First – located at 129 First St. – in late January with daily hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The venture is the latest in a handful of downtown Los Altos businesses introduced by H&H. The company’s retail listings include Bumble and Area 151, also on First Street, and The Makery, Red Racer Hobby Shop and Play! Los Altos on State Street.

Lovold said the incoming cafe and juice bar will offer a “truly exciting and innovative menu” created by executive chef Tyler Morrish, former sous chef at the Michelin-ranked Osteria Coppa in San Mateo. She added that the new space will offer breakfast, lunch and take-home dinner meals, as well as freshly pressed juices, using locally sourced seasonal ingredients.

The cafe’s menu will feature items such as Dutch pancakes with blueberries and house butter, French toast stuffed with dried fruit compote and berry pear sauce, and a brussels sprouts salad with mustard lemon vinaigrette, among other selections. Lovold added that Morrish plans to cure meats and pickle foods, as well as make cultured butter and fresh farmers cheese from scratch.

Lovold said the woodland-themed cafe is designed to offer a family-friendly environment that includes a custom-designed tree house structure made from handcrafted redwood and eucalyptus.
