PNG hosts open house for potential volunteers

Partners for New Generations (PNG) has scheduled an open house for potential volunteers noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the MVLA District Office Board Room, 1299 Bryant Ave., Mountain View.

PNG coordinators will provide an overview of the nonprofit organization and its services for local youth.

PNG seeks volunteers who want to make a difference in the life of a student via tutoring (grades K-8) or mentoring (grades 9-12) in Los Altos and Mountain View public schools.

Admission is open to the public. There is no obligation to sign up as a volunteer.

Lunch will be provided.

Vargas set to appear at MVLA event

MVLA Community Scholars and Define American have scheduled a screening of “Documented,” a film by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and immigration activist Jose Antonio Vargas, 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Vargas, an undocumented immigrant who wrote and directed the film, will appear at the screening. He graduated from Mountain View High School and was an MVLA scholar.

Tickets are $27. A VIP package includes a pre-event reception with Vargas.
