Jacob shines in Texas
Los Altos High sophomore Lauren Jacob capped a successful season by winning the girls 15-16 age division at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships Dec. 14 in San Antonio. Jacob ran the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 20 seconds. She finished 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Amanda Gehrich of Southern California. Gehrich beat Jacob by 10 seconds two weeks earlier at the state meet, where the Los Altos resident finished 11th in her division.
Holiday hoops camp
Spartans Sports Camp’s second Coed Holiday Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at Mountain View High, 3535 Truman Ave. It is open to boys and girls in grades 4-8. Mountain View coaches and alumni will teach participants how to improve their shooting, ball handling, defense and other skills. Registration is $195; partial sessions may be prorated.
