Teams make the grade

Four local high school teams contended for a 2013 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Award. The awards, instituted by the Central Coast Section Board of Managers in 1985, recognize the varsity team from each CCS sport with the highest collective GPA of the teams competing in that sport during the season. The Los Altos girls water polo (3.6666 GPA) and St. Francis girls golf (3.7675) teams placed second in their respective sports. St. Francis’ field hockey (3.5952) and girls cross-country (3.7782) teams finished third and fifth, respectively.

Volleyball openings

The Aloha Volleyball Club, directed by Los Altos High girls coach Peter Kim, has open positions on several teams, from 12 Pink (Area level) to 18 Aloha (Power). For more information, visit alohavbc.com.

PONY up for baseball

All-Century noms sought

The California Interscholastic Federation is accepting nominations for its All-Century Teams. The CIF governs the state’s high school sports. Former student-athletes who demonstrated significant athletic contributions in CIF-approved sports are eligible and anyone can nominate a student-athlete they deem worthy. Winter sports nominations will be accepted through February and spring nominations March through May (fall sports nominations closed in November). Voting will take place during the next school year.
