Mercifully in His grip: Exploring our true position in Christ

I recently read a wonderful analogy about our true position in Christ. It was shockingly contrary to the messages impressed upon me in church, but deeply rooted in the Bible. The analogy is that of child and a parent. If you have ever taken a small ...

LAH Council Preview

The Los Altos Hills City Council is scheduled to meet 5:30 p.m. Thursday at town hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road. A reception to honor the town’s new council-selected mayor and vice mayor will follow. Below is a roundup of agenda items.

Committee presents results of Westwind search

After interviewing six vendors interested in assuming control of Westwind Community Barn, the interview committee is scheduled to present the results.

According to a memorandum issued in advance of Thursday’s meeting, the committe will recommend that two vendors, Torie Dye of Fremont Hills Country Club and Laura Stevens of Heather Hill Riding Academy, advance to the bidding phase.

The new vendor will be responsible for operating commercial boarding at the barn, in addition to Parks and Recreation riding programs, Pacific Ridge Pony Club horse leasing, facility scheduling, private lessons and portions of the 4-H equine services.

Sheriff’s contract up for renewal

Los Altos Hills’ 10-year contract with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office expires June 30, prompting staff to recommend renewing the agreement for law enforcement services.

Based on services provided, the Los Altos Hills Finance and Investment Committee found that contracting with the Sheriff’s Office is “comparatively low cost.” The Sheriff’s Office projects a per capita cost of $122 to provide services during the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the lowest among all communities served by the office.

Los Altos Hills budgeted 15.77 percent of its general fund for law enforcement services, slightly more than $1 million for fiscal year 2014. The Sheriff’s Office has served the town of Los Altos Hills since its incorporation in 1956.

Purissima Creek project set for construction

Approximately 1,200 native plants may soon replace poison hemlock, periwinkle, English ivy and other invasive species that populate a 2-acre stretch along Purissima Creek at O’Keefe Preserve in Los Altos Hills. If approved, the $155,000 project will begin in January and conclude in June.

A $98,425 grant from the Santa Clara Valley Water District, $34,200 from the town’s capital improvement account and an $18,848 in-kind contribution will fund the project.

Student volunteers from Bullis Charter School will participate in the planting along the banks of Purissima Creek during the native species restoration phase of the project.

Guardrail project aims to make Taaffe Road safer

Prompted by safety concerns from neighbors following a March 2012 accident along a sharp curve on Taaffe Road, the Planning Commission recommended the installation of a guardrail near the intersection at Elena Road.

If approved, project funding, estimated at $29,600, will come from the street capital improvements budget.
