This month’s First Friday festivities, scheduled 6-8 p.m. Dec. 6 in downtown Los Altos, take on a holiday theme – “All Aboard for the Holidays!”
The Los Altos Forward-sponsored event includes free train rides courtesy of the local American Legion; browsing and shopping at retail shops and galleries, many of which offer discounts and free refreshments; and nearly 20 restaurants serving a variety of cuisines.
In addition to partnering with the Los Altos Village Association on the return of the annual tree-lighting event (see story above), First Friday will feature drawings for hundreds of dollars in gift certificates donated by downtown merchants.
Attendees can enter either by playing the “Find the Train Tickets” game at participating merchants or by purchasing merchandise that evening.
Scheduled performers include: juggler Jonathan Luxton; cover band Fully Funded; a brass quartet from Los Altos High School featuring Janelle McAfee, Vishnu Vachani, Gabi Wachs and Daniel Noel; a guitar duo featuring high school musicians Chris Burton and TJ Lascola; the Black Mountain Radio string band; and an accordion group called the Sunday Seven.
The performers will be stationed at various storefronts throughout downtown.
Coinciding with First Friday is the opening of a new downtown addition, Helix by Exploratorium at 316/320 State St.
“Helix is thrilled to contribute to our first First Friday,” said Helix Director Ann Richardson. “As you stroll along State Street, look for the cinematic projection on our second-floor window celebrating light. Join us inside Helix for hands-on explorations of light and color.”
Los Altos Forward, a program of the Los Altos Community Foundation, is a volunteer group dedicated to promoting vibrancy in downtown Los Altos. First Fridays are designed to provide fun, social and community-building evenings for local residents.
