City announces construction-related street closure dates

The city of Los Altos officials today (Nov. 19) announced dates for construction-related closures over a five-week span along First Street – including one already underway.

Construction at 400 Main St., 100 First St. – as well as the ongoing Safeway reconstruction project – will require temporary street or lane closures that will vary from one to five days, according to Los Altos Public Information Coordinator Erica Ray.

Ray noted that closures will occur no earlier than 7 a.m. and must end by 5 p.m. each day. She added that each project’s specific closures within the daily timeframe could vary. Ray said the schedule (listed below) is subject to change due to poor weather and other factors.

400 Main St.
    • Saturday, Nov. 23
    • Monday, Nov. 25
    • Tuesday, Dec. 10
Closure of the street will occur between State Street and Parking Plaza Central. Access to the Parking Plaza from Main Street will not be blocked.
 
100 First St. (condominium project)
    • Monday, Dec. 2
    • Wednesday, Dec. 11
    • Tuesday, Dec. 17
Lane closures will be required in front of the project parcel. Flagmen will be present to enable through-traffic to proceed on the street.
 
Safeway project
    • Street closure: Nov. 18-22
    • Lane closure: Dec. 18-19
Street closure for this project is underway between State Street and Plaza North. Motorists will have access to Public Parking Plaza 7 from the W. Edith Avenue direction. In addition, the project will require a lane closure in the central portion of the Safeway parcel along First Street. According to the city, through traffic on First Street will be allowed during that time.
In addition, the city has also approved a three-hour street closure Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 235 First St. to allow retail store Land of Nod to move into its new location. According to Ray, the closure will occur in the early morning or evening hours in an effort to avoid conflicts with other construction traffic in the area.
