Local artists go on display at Los Altos History Museum

The Los Altos History Museum contemporary art exhibition “Los Altos – Moving Art Forward,” opens this Saturday. The project celebrates local artists with a juried exhibition in painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media.

The local arts exhibition was planned to complement the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s off-site exhibit, “The Los Altos Project: SFMOMA in Silicon Valley,” and will run through March 23, 2014.

Exhibition chair Jane Reed quoted David Stuart Elliott, a British-born art curator and writer about modern art, to describe the project: “We want people to experience art and think about it. The art reflects our time, it is about our culture.”

The exhibition will feature works from 55 exhibiting artists from the area, including Kay Alexander, Marilyn Boland, Mark McAfee Brown, Alice Cekleov, Charlotte Coqui, Nancie Crowley, Agnes Derbin-Caulfield, Stoney Edwards, Jan Edwards, Kirsi Engels, Rosa Farinas, Wendy Fitzgerald, Alexandra Frank, Jann Freeman, Daniela Friedmann, Judy Gittelsohn, Marj Green, Tom Green, Carol Hake, Roxann M. Happ, Hedda Hope, Steven Ivy, Bev Jauch, Hardy Jones, Judy Keyani, Marianne Lettieri, Oleg Lobykin, Lorraine Malmgren, Stephanie Maclean, Jason A. McHenry, Ann McMillan, Jan Meyer, Terenia Offenbacker, Rebecca Palmer, Matthew W. Palomo, Suzanne Peck, Arula Ratnakar, Yuki Yamaguchi Ranganathan, Sarah J. Rogallo, Tom Schreiber, William A. Stanton, Fiona Stolorz, Jean Struthers, Rosalinda Taymor, Paula Tuerk, Barbara von Haunalter, Monica Waldman, and Catharine Zander.

To celebrate the exhibition’s opening and to honor the artists, a public reception is scheduled 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.

Museum hours are noon to 4 p.m. Thursday – Sunday. Admission is free. For more information, visit losaltoshistory.org or call Grace Perry at 948-9427, ext. 14.
